How Long Does The Withdrawal Effect Of Suboxone Last?

Nowadays, drug use has become a trend. Teenagers and young adults are the main victims of drug abuse. Moreover, if someone wants to stop using drugs, it becomes a challenge for them because their body is addicted to the drug. To treat these patients, doctors usually prescribe Suboxone.

Suboxone is an FDA-approved opioid-based medication. The use of opioid-based medications against opioid addicts is essentially a way to trick their brains into thinking they are receiving opioids to stay calm. However, the medication does contain opioids but in minimal amounts and is not as addictive as heroin.

This medication may be the best option for treating opioid withdrawal symptoms. It is used early in treatment to suppress and combat intense withdrawal symptoms. However, the use of Suboxone is the best way to treat opioid addicts, but prolonged use of Suboxone can make the patient dependent on Suboxone.

Because Suboxone partially contains opioids, doctors gradually reduce the dose of the drug to avoid opioid-like withdrawal symptoms.

Unlike opioids, the symptoms of Suboxone do not last long but are similar to those of opioids. The buprenorphine in Suboxone activates the opioid receptors; however, the intensity is not the same but is sufficient to cause withdrawal symptoms. Though, the symptoms do not occur immediately after withdrawal and begin nearly 6 to 12 hours after the last dose of Suboxone and may reach its peak within 72 hours.

The patient will experience nausea, anxiety, fever, body aches, diarrhea, and vomiting during this period. Within a week, the intensity begins to decrease. However, the anxiety and depression may last for several months. It is also reported that in some cases, opioid cravings reappear after years.

Until now, Suboxone has been considered the best medication for opioid addiction. Although its withdrawal symptoms last for months, you can survive these symptoms if you have strong willpower.
